    Detrimental Reliance

Client had been to several other lawyers relating to an employment contract dispute with a major Texas franchisor. Other lawyers were unwilling to assist the client because the client actually did not have a written contract with his employer. Chris pursued the claim under a theory known as “detrimental reliance” and filed suit. After suit was filed, but before trial, the case was successfully mediated and the client received $145,000 after the payment of attorneys’ fees and court costs.

    Eighteen-Wheeler Collision
In 2015, client was involved in an 18-wheeler collision at highway speeds. Although the collision was clearly the fault of the 18-wheeler’s driver, he had no insurance. Our client had over $100,000 in medical bills, and Hutson & Harris pursued our client’s own insurance company. As a result of this, we were able to get all the medical and legal bills paid, and the client still received over $34,000.00 as well as his vehicle replaced. While this was not a high value case, we are very proud that were able to help put our client’s life back together when the normal avenues of recovery were closed.

    Fertilizer Plant Explosion
Following the explosion of a fertilizer plant in the town of West, Texas in 2013, many claims were filed relating to property damage and personal injuries. Our client had a home that was a fair distance from the center of the explosion, and she believed her home was damaged by the explosion, but her insurance company refused to pay the claim. Hutson & Harris hired an engineer to evaluate the home and filed suit. The insurance company then paid for our client’s home, and a new one was built in its place.

    Motorcycle Accident
Client was injured in motorcycle accident. The insurance company for the at-fault driver went into bankruptcy, and Hutson & Harris was able to make a recovery for the client through the Texas Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association (Texas Risk Pool). This is an extremely time-consuming and tedious process, but after working through it with the client for about 6 months, his hospital bills were eliminated, and he did receive money through the risk pool. The client referred his family members to Hutson & Harris when they were injured in a different crash.
  • Aggravated Assault With A Deadly Weapon
    Criminal Defense

Client was accused of aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon. Due to the nature of the case and the weak evidence against our client, Hutson & Harris compiled a grand jury packet and convinced the prosecutor’s office to present it to the grand jury. The grand jury refused to indict the client, based in large part on the effectiveness of the submission by Will Hutson.

    Death of a Child
Parent of child who had been tragically killed in multi-vehicle accident came to our firm after another lawyer had investigated his case and dismissed the client due to limited insurance. Upon further investigation, Hutson & Harris was able to locate additional insurance coverage. The mother of the child had hired a prominent law firm in Dallas, but after seeing how we communicated with the father, she eventually fired them and hired Hutson & Harris. Although it was a complicated case with multiple parties, Hutson & Harris was eventually able to make recoveries for both of the parents as well as annuities for other children injured in the crash.
